25 November 2020, International Day for the elimination of violence against women, corresponded with the death of a legendary football player: Diego Armando Maradona. A piece of news which has been around the world and which even we non-football lovers must be aware of, given the fact that there isn’t any place where people aren’t talking about it.
He suffered from a cardiac arrest in his house in Tigre, Argentina, where he was spending his convalescence after the head surgery he underwent a week before. He had just turned sixty. The news surely threw all football fans into despair. The city of Naples and the entire country of Argentina plunged into a nightmare, to the point that the news is still hard for them to believe.
Let’s remember the several parades organized in respect of him which were breaking the anti-covid rules. Concerning this, the government turned a blind eye, but we are sure that they did so for some other reason, too.
The stark fact is that, in Italy alone, between the 25 and the 26 November, 3 women were brutally killed by their husbands, probably due to jealousy, but we don’t have any details; instead the newscasts were packed with reports concerning the extraordinary football skills of Maradona, rather than reports committed to raise awareness on sensitive issues such as violence against women.
Among those who decided to say something about his death, there is Laura Pausini, who wrote on Instagram: “In Italy the farewell to a man, who was surely excellent at playing football, but less remarkable for a thousand personal facts, makes the headlines more than the farewell to the many, abused, raped, and mistreated women.” In addition, many actions from his past have emerged, that don’t depict him worth commemorating.
There have been rumours for a long time about him beating his wife. Whether this is true or not only time will tell. But even if it is unfounded, the fact that the news of his death has eclipsed the importance of the International Day supporting the many women who experience violence, or death is unsupportable.
It is known that the football player fully enjoyed his life, football, notoriety, money and drug addiction, but we should all agree that gender-based violence should neither be included among the vices nor should be a reason for a person to be remembered.
Furthermore, an influential person like him should have been aware of how many people shall emulate him and that’s why he should have behaved as an example, as unfortunately he hasn’t.
We have written this article, in the name of the 3 victims, who haven’t been able to be commemorated.

L'enigmatico caso Maradona
Il 25 novembre 2020, giornata internazionale contro la violenza maschile sulle donne, ha coinciso con la morte di un calciatore mito: Diego Armando Maradona. Una notizia che ha fatto subito il giro del mondo, nella quale sono incappati anche i non appassionati di calcio dato che se ne è parlato ovunque.
Ha avuto un arresto cardiocircolatorio nella sua casa di Tigre, in Argentina, dove stava trascorrendo la convalescenza dopo l’intervento chirurgico alla testa di qualche settimana prima. Aveva appena compiuto 60 anni.
La notizia ha gettato nello sconforto tutti gli amanti del calcio. La città di Napoli, in particolare, e l’ Argentina, sono piombate in un incubo.
Moltissimi sono stati i cortei per ricordarlo, anche in Italia, effettuati infrangendo tutte le normative anti-covid. Su questo però lo stato ha chiuso un occhio, ma a noi è venuto il sospetto che lo abbia fatto anche per qualcos’altro.
Infatti non tutti sanno che tra il 25 e il 26 novembre 2020 ben 3 donne sono state brutalmente uccise dai loro mariti, probabilmente per motivi di gelosia, ma non abbiamo notizie chiare, dal momento che i telegiornali, in quel periodo, erano stracolmi di servizi riguardanti le eccezionali abilità calcistiche di Maradona, e questo ha offuscato avvenimenti ben più drammatici.
Insomma, viene davvero il sospetto che la morte di Maradona sia stata utilizzata “ad arte” anche per impedire che l’opinione pubblica avvertisse, in tutta la sua urgenza, la drammaticità di una questione sempre più presente nella società come quella del femminicidio.
Per fortuna, tra chi ha deciso di dire qualcosa sulla morte di Maradona c’è anche Laura Pausini, che su Instagram ha scritto: “In Italia fa più notizia l’addio a un uomo sicuramente bravissimo a giocare al pallone ma davvero poco apprezzabile per mille cose personali diventate pubbliche, piuttosto che l’addio a tante donne maltrattate, violentate, abusate”.
Sono emerse infatti molte notizie non proprio edificanti sulla vita privata del calciatore, come quella secondo cui maltrattasse la moglie.
É risaputo che il calciatore si sia goduto appieno la vita, fra il calcio, la notorietà, i soldi e la droga, ma dovremmo essere tutti d’accordo sul fatto che la violenza di genere non può essere tollerata neanche nella vita del calciatore più forte del mondo.
Inoltre un personaggio così influente dovrebbe essere consapevole di quante persone lo considerassero un idolo, e proprio per questo motivo dovrebbe comportarsi in maniera esemplare, come purtroppo non è stato.
Per questo, in nome delle 3 vittime che non hanno avuto modo di essere ricordate adeguatamente, abbiamo scritto questo articolo.
